Graffiti is widely known as vandalism instead of art too most people. This form of art involves spray paint, stickers, markers etc. Graffiti is a huge part of the hip hop culture and new styles and ways of painting graffiti have come too life as new younger writers have used this form of art. In 1970 the NYC subway system was practically over runned by graffiti artist "The longer your piece stays up the more of a name you can make for yourself". In the 1970's the city didn't have enough money too pay for maintenance so the city was dirty and full of graffiti not just the exteriors of the trains but also the interiors, riders felt less safe using the subway causing the subways system too lose lots of money.

Now the train yards and subway tunnels are way more secured and yes there have been cases of young writers getting hit by a train or getting eletricuted by the tracks but as long as young teens enjoy this form of art, graffiti will be seen around your city and neighborhoods.
